Walter J. Reeve – Journal of Croatian Studies - Volume I 1960

WALTER J: REEVE

We profoundly regret the untimely death of Professor Walter J. Reeve, the first editor of the Journal of Croatian Studies, who died on June 9, 1958 at the age of 43.

He was an American of English-Croatian origin, his mother having come from the family Hadjijanec, Privlaka, Vinkovci. Croatia. From his mother he inherited a sincere love for Croatia, the land of her ancestors.

Professor Reeve was an assistant professor of history at the Fordham University School of Education, a member of the Medieval Academy of America and the American Catholic Historical Association. He was a founding member of the Croatian Academy of America and its president or vice-president for several years.

He was the first editor of the Journal of Croatian Studies and unfortunately did not live to see the appearance of its first volume which he had planned and initiated.

The Croatian Academy of America and the Journal of Croatian Studies will cherish the memory of Professor Walter J. Reeve forever.
